Almost All Our Customers Websites are Built with WordPress. Here’s Why.

wordpress website design and hostingBack in 2005 when WordPress was at version 1.5, ITexpress built its own website using the WordPress platform. At that time we were, like many other designers, creating sites from scratch, and writing them by hand in html.

Once we started using WordPress we pretty much at that time decided that we would create all our websites from then on using this great software. WordPress is what we call a Content Management System, or CMS. What this means is that webpages are created by pulling information from a database, rather than hand coded. Using a database means you can repurpose content in multiple pages and reduce the amount of maintenance for the website. You can also write new content actually on the website using a special interface.

There are so many benefits to using WordPress that it is impossible for me to list them all, but these are the immediate ones which come to mind and come up most often when talking to our Web Services Customers;

  • Open Source. We are not reinventing the wheel. WordPress is tried and proven and simply works. It also means we can put your budget into designing a great site, and not so much into the back end
  • Easy to add new content. The WordPress interface is as easy to use as Microsoft Word, so if you can create a Word document then you can edit your website
  • Easy to add new features. There are always new social media sites and new cool thingsĀ  being invented, and WordPress allows us to use ‘plugins’ to add integration with these tools when they become available.
  • Multiple users and different permissions. You can have an employee create content and then you come along and authorise it, so you can keep control of the content and check those spelling and grammar mistakes before your customer sees them.
  • Timed content. You can even add content and then set a date and time for it to go live on your site. If you want to launch a new service on a Sunday, then you don’t have to actually be in the office to do so.
  • Separating the Design from the Content. We find that most companies go for some kind of brand refresh every 5 years or so. By using a database for content, you can refresh your site without losing any of the content.
  • Version History. One of the most useful tools we have shown customers is the ability to save all changes and keep a version history. No matter what mistakes you make, you can always go back to a previous version of the page, so you don’t have to be scared about editing your site.

We love WordPress and always recommend it to our business customers. It suits the vast majority of website applications and allows your business to keep ahead of the curve, at really modest budgets too.
